There’s something special happening in the hangar this winter—and it’s unlike anything else in the Coastal Bend. Warbird Wednesdays, presented by Vintage Air Tours, is a brand-new five-part class series designed for history buffs, Winter Texans, aviation enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys learning something new about the place they call home.
Hosted right inside our working hangar at the Aransas County Airport, this series blends Coastal Bend heritage, WWII-era aviation, hands-on demonstrations, and real stories from the pilots, veterans, and maintainers who shaped our region. Whether you’ve flown with us before or are simply curious about the history woven into the skies above Rockport, this is the perfect way to connect with the past in a fun, engaging, and community-focused setting.
What Makes Warbird Wednesdays Special?
You’re Learning in a Real Hangar
No classrooms. No PowerPoints. Just the authentic sights, sounds, and smells of a working WWII-era aircraft shop. You'll explore “Betty,” our 1943 PT-17 Stearman, and “Norma,” our 1947 North American Navion, up close as you dive into the fascinating world of vintage aviation.
Engaging, Hands-On Topics
Each session dives into a completely different aspect of aviation history and local heritage. Your $25 admission ticket includes all 5 classes!
Topics include:
Aircraft Maintenance & Restoration: How we keep 80-year-old warbirds flying safely today.
Coastal Bend Veterans Stories: Hear firsthand accounts and untold local history from those who served.
WWII Pilot Life & Training: What it took to earn your wings in the 1940s.
Local Military Aviation Heritage: How Rockport played a surprising role in WWII flight training.
Behind-the-Scenes Tour Operations: Learn how an FAA-approved vintage air tour company preserves history while sharing it with the public.
No two classes are alike—and each one is designed to spark curiosity and inspire.

A Winter Texan Favorite
If you’re escaping the cold and looking for something meaningful to do while you enjoy life on the Texas coast, this is it. Our Warbird Wednesdays series offers a mix of education, entertainment, camaraderie, and access to aircraft you simply won’t find anywhere else along the Gulf.
Community, Coffee, and Conversation
One of the most exciting parts of Warbird Wednesdays is the atmosphere we create together. Guests gather around restored airplanes, sip fresh local coffee, and connect over shared interest in aviation, military service, and the history of our hometown. Every week brings new stories, new faces, and a deeper appreciation for the men and women who shaped aviation in the Coastal Bend.
This isn’t just a class—it’s an experience.
Warbird Wednesdays: Why?
At Vintage Air Tours, our mission has always been bigger than airplane rides. We are committed to:

Warbird Wednesdays accomplishes all of this—while giving you a behind-the-scenes look at our operation, our aircraft, and our passion for sharing history in a hands-on, accessible way.
